Water DazeAuthor: Peter Young
At the end of the eighties we scoffed at those strange people who drank and paid for, bottled mineral water. If someone had told us that bottled water would in the near future, fill isles of supermarkets, we would have considered them completely mad. Twenty years on and a stranger than fiction future has become reality. Every month I carried 100's of kilos of bottled drinking water up three flights of stairs to our apartment. Why? Because our house hold water is not drinkable. Not even our plants or pets like it. Admittedly we do not live next to a mountain stream but then nor do we live in a city, or in an underdeveloped country but it is safe to say the quality of our drinking water, oceans and rivers is increasingly deteriorating at an alarming rate. When I was growing up water
was one of those overlooked blessings in life which I
always took for granted. It was free, abundant and even tasted
fantastic after a hard training session. We drank straight from the tap, garden hose and even from the local stream.
